[December 26, 2009] Statement on Swingstage accident in North Etobicoke, December 24th, 2009 You may have heard about the Swingstage accident that occurred December 24 in North Etobicoke, resulting in 4 deaths and one person seriously injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the workers, which is particularly tragic happening as it did, the night before Christmas. Based on our reputation and experience in the industry, the Ministry of Labour has asked Scafom to assist in securing and removing the damaged equipment. To be clear, Scafom has no prior involvement with this accident, men or materials, other than to assist in the clean-up. Accidents can happen in this business, like any others. When they do, we need to be cautious and make no comment nor express any opinion, until a proper investigation is completed by the Ministry. Scafom employs Swingstage equipment manufactured by Winsafe Corp. We can advise that the particular swingstage equipment involved in this accident, was not Winsafe's. We can also inform you at this point, from what we have seen, that we are not aware of any changes; either in respect of current procedures or practices that our customers are advised to follow, in the proper use of Swingstage equipment.
